According to the latest statistics of the General Department of Customs, on August 1 (from August 1 to 15), the total import and export turnover of goods nationwide reached 28.6 billion USD.

In which, goods exports reached 14.4 billion USD, down 10.8% over the same period. Four export groups of goods reaching 1 billion USD or more include: phones and components reached $ 2.42 billion; computers, electronic products, and components reached 2.38 billion USD; textiles and garments reached 1.55 billion USD; machinery, equipment, tools, and other spare parts reached 1.53 billion USD…

In terms of imports, in the first half of August, turnover reached 14.2 billion USD, up 5.3% over the same period. Computers, electronic products, and components are the largest commodity group with a turnover of 4.1 billion USD. Machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts are the second “billion dollar” group with 1.87 billion USD. Thus, the import turnover of goods has continued to tend to increase in recent months. This is a good sign that export turnover will increase more shortly because importing goods mainly focuses on groups of goods for production for export and domestic consumption.

Generally, from the beginning of the year to August 15, total import and export turnover reached more than 402 billion USD. In which, import and export were 209.43 billion USD, down 23.5 billion USD over the same period last year; imports reached 193.17 billion USD, down 38.73 billion USD.

From the beginning of the year to August 15, Vietnam’s trade balance had a surplus of more than 16 billion USD.

To remove difficulties for import and export, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is actively implementing solutions to remove difficulties and create the greatest favorable conditions for import and export. For example, according to the provisions of Circular 36/2023/TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance, from July 21, enterprises applying for a certificate of origin (C/O) must pay a fee. Fee-collecting organizations as prescribed in this Circular include: The Ministry of Industry and Trade and agencies and organizations authorized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade shall issue certificates of origin of goods as prescribed in Article 34 of the Law on Foreign Trade Management.

However, instead of having to directly manage the fee management facility, businesses can make payment of C/O fees/leases online. This form aims to create maximum favorable conditions for businesses, helping businesses save time and other biological costs. After paying the C/O fee/fee, the business will receive an email receipt registered with the management agency.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is making efforts to support businesses to expand their markets through negotiation and signing of FTAs, the latest of which is an FTA with Israel. This is a move that is highly appreciated by businesses, associations, and experts because it will help open more opportunities for Vietnamese goods to the world market.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will organize a series of events “Connecting the international supply chain of goods” (Viet Nam International Sourcing 2023) in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh in September 2023. Talking to a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, many importers said that they are looking forward to the opportunity to find sources of imported goods from Vietnam through this important event.
