In the first quarter of 2023, good growth compared to the same period in 2022 was recorded in both traditional and potential markets. Rice export markets in the first quarter of 2023 recorded good growth compared to the same period in 2022 in both traditional and potential markets. “Rice exports to Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Singapore have grown strongly, exports to the EU also recorded a growth of nearly 50%, and many markets increased sharply such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland. Especially in traditional and key markets, we will continue to hold on like the Philippines and China,” said the deputy minister.

The market continues to be favorable

According to Mr. Nam, currently, the demand for rice imports in Vietnam’s traditional markets such as the Philippines, China, Indonesia, and African countries has increased. In European countries, due to the political conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the demand for food reserves increased, which is a factor that helps rice exporters benefit shortly.

While the demand for rice imports increases, the supply of rice from the world’s leading riri-exporting countries such as India and Pakistan continues to be limited; Thai rice prices increased due to the appreciation of the baht. Vietnam is having the advantage of early supply from the Winter-Spring crop, the output and quality of rice is stable, so it is forecasted that in the short term, Vietnam’s rice price will still be at a good level.

“In general, in terms of the rice export market this year, the supply side is lower than the demand, so the output is favorable, the problem of the rice industry this year is the production stage and production linkage so that there are suitable rice varieties. with market demand”, emphasized Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam.
